{"id":845,"date":"2015-01-20T10:19:36","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T16:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/1960sclassnews\/?p=845"},"modified":"2015-05-20T16:00:04","modified_gmt":"2015-05-20T21:00:04","slug":"gretchen-payne-65-50th-reunion-memories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.iwu.edu\/1960sclassnews\/2015\/01\/20\/gretchen-payne-65-50th-reunion-memories\/","title":{"rendered":"Gretchen Payne &#8217;65 50th Reunion Memories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gretchen has some memories she would like to share:<\/p>\n<p>I already have\u00a0Oct. 9-11\u00a0on my calendar.\u00a0 Several of my Alpha Gam sisters are also planning on it.<\/p>\n<p>I taught English, drama, and directed plays in Hoopeston, IL and West Chicago high schools for five years before marrying and moving to Colorado.\u00a0 I had two sons, Dana, born in 1972, and Nick, born in 1979.\u00a0 My marriage ended in divorce, and I went back to teaching English and speech, and coached the competitive speech team at Westminster High School for 21 years before I retired in 2010.\u00a0 I now read, hike, play bridge, volunteer at our local food bank, and perform with a nonprofit educational group called The Legendary Ladies. &lt;www.legendaryladies.org&gt;; We portray women who helped settle the West; my two characters are Helen Hunt Jackson, author and Indian rights advocate, and Silver Heels, a dance hall girl who nursed miners through a smallpox epidemic.\u00a0 I have one granddaughter who is a horsewoman, so I enjoy going to her shows and watching her sail over the jumps.
