William C. Short Jr. ’62

We are deeply sorry to announce that William C. Short Jr. ’62 of Bloomington, IL and Englewood, Fla., passed away Oct. 29, 2017.

At IWU, Bill was a member of Sigma Chi. After his sophomore year, Bill served in the U.S. Army. His love of building roads began at age 16 when he worked under his father in Boone County and, after graduating at IWU, he began working for Eaton Asphalt, followed by Rowe Construction Co. for 40 years, where he was vice president, until he retired in 2000.

Bill and his wife Sherron enjoyed traveling. His favorite place was his home in Florida.

Bill was known for his love of family, his sense of humor, his strong work ethic, his integrity and a life well-lived. He will be missed.

Howard McNier Gives Back after Retirement

Howard McNier ’69 retired from the California State University College of Business faculty. He is carrying on, at least a little bit, the tradition of Dr Beadles. He has now dedicated his life to aiding the less fortunate.

As a member of the Board of Directors of the Living Water Center in Bangkok, Thailand (funded by Mary’s Meals, a CNN Top Ten Hero), Howard helps educate, house, etc. migrant, trafficked children from across South East Asia.

This is wonderful news, Howard! We wish you good luck in the future!

Daniel Sullivan ’62

We are deeply saddened to announce that Daniel Sullivan ’62, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, opera singer, and voice teacher passed away on February 18, 2017.

Dan had a notable performance career, full and robust life, and courageous 12-year battle with Multiple Myeloma, fortunate to be on the cutting edge of research and multiple trials with the Beth Israel Hematology and GI Oncology teams.

Dan the performing artist will be remembered as a consummate professional and supportive colleague. Dan as a man will be remembered by those closest as a true artist, who found the creative in everything, and made a conscious choice in “one thing every day.” In the last few years, Dan turned to the visual arts to express his cancer experience, and shared Sullivan Studios each year at JP Open Studios with family artists Molly and Reilly. He loved the theater and his family—no role and no job was too small or menial for him to take on with great purpose. Dan performed with the greats in international venues but also  truly loved to repair, paint and build props, sing in the church choir, beef up the bass section of the university opera, and do roles with kids. He was an encourager, a dreamer, and a champion for others.
