We are deeply sorry to announce that Alfred Raufeisen ’61 passed away at the age of 79 on Nov. 22, 2017, at Wild Rose Hospital. He was born on May 3, 1938, in Zurich, Switzerland and immigrated to America on Nov. 10, 1950, later proudly becoming a U.S. citizen. He graduated from New York Mills High School in Utica, N.Y., attended Utica College, Illinois Wesleyan University and the University of Illinois. He was part owner of Henneman and Raufeisen Associates Inc. He felt privileged to work with many clients on state-of-the-art projects throughout the Midwest and received numerous awards. As an adjunct professor, Alfred took great pride interacting with young student architects and engineers. Alfred also enjoyed winters in Punta Gorda, Fla. He will be deeply missed.

We are deeply sorry to announce that William C. Short Jr. ’62 of Bloomington, IL and Englewood, Fla., passed away Oct. 29, 2017.
At IWU, Bill was a member of Sigma Chi. After his sophomore year, Bill served in the U.S. Army. His love of building roads began at age 16 when he worked under his father in Boone County and, after graduating at IWU, he began working for Eaton Asphalt, followed by Rowe Construction Co. for 40 years, where he was vice president, until he retired in 2000.
Bill and his wife Sherron enjoyed traveling. His favorite place was his home in Florida.
Bill was known for his love of family, his sense of humor, his strong work ethic, his integrity and a life well-lived. He will be missed.

As IWU celebrates Titans Around the World at Homecoming this weekend, we will also honor our alumni who served worldwide as veterans and first-responders, including Captain Ryan A. Beaupre ’95. We will remember Ryan and all veterans and first-responders who have given their lives in the service of others and our country. Presenting the colors will be American Legion Color Guard Post 635 Normal and Post 56 from Bloomington. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, October 14th at 12:45 p.m., prior to the Homecoming Football game at Tucci Stadium and will include the National Anthem sung by Wayne Messmer ’72.
