Titan TV is an entirely student-run organization, and all of the members of our new Executive Board are very enthusiastic and excited about the leadership experience they’ll gain in their new positions. They’ve all got a lot of innovative ideas and long-term goals for the station. After three and a half years in the group, I couldn’t be more excited about what these new leaders will undoubtedly do for the organization.

If you have any questions, you can email titantv@iwu.edu.

New Titan TV Show

There’s a new show coming to Titan TV!

It’s made by students here at IWU.  It’s called “The Guys Next Door”.  It’s about the four students with very contrasting personalities packed into one chaotic room.  It’s like “The Real World”, except more real.

You can check out their website here, or their facebook page here.

The show begins on Sunday, January 31st at 8 pm at the Hansen Student Center.  Everyone is welcome to come!

All new episodes will air on Channel 5 on Sundays at 8 pm.

Hope you enjoy the show!

Channel 5 Not Working

If you check channel 5 either on your cable TV on campus or in the online schedule, you’ll notice it currently isn’t showing any movies.  After I restarted the Digital Media Player for Channel 5 yesterday to load Titan TV’s movies for January, the Swank Motion Pictures Player started encountering errors each time it tried to open.  I (along with Steve Lessaris and Michael Gorman) spoke on the phone today with John from Swank and he’s sending us a CD with a software update overnight.  In the mean time, we’ll continue with our programming on channel 4.

Look for these movies playing on Titan TV throughout the month of January:

  • We Are Marshall
  • When Harry Met Sally
  • GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
  • Driving Miss Daisy
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Dumb and Dumber
  • The Hangover
  • Crash (2005)
  • Happy Feet
  • Cadillac Records
  • Public Enemies

Remember, you can always check online to see what’s playing on channels 4 and 5!

Titan TV Updates

It’s been a while since we’ve updated the campus about what’s going on in Titan TV, so I wanted to take a minute today to do just that.

On December 1, Steve Lessaris became our new Resource Manager. Steve has been a very active member of the organization this semester and has a very positive energy in taking on his new role in the organization. The Titan TV Resource Manager keeps track of all of our equipment, people, and space, and Steve has some great ideas for how to do all of that.

Another big update is about our studio space. A few years ago, Titan TV was given an open room in the lower level of Gulick Hall to use as a studio. The room was not made to be a TV studio (far from it), but, given the opportunity to incrementally adjust the space to suit our needs, we’ve worked hard these past few years to try to improve the space. It’s not perfect yet, but we’ve gotten a lot of help from Physical Plant and IT this semester, so I wanted to show a couple of before-and-after pictures to show how far we’ve come and thank them for their continued support.

Another update from this semester is that we have a lot of members. On September 17, our email list surpassed fifty people! Those students are involved in many different ways, from filming campus events (like football games and musical performances) to making our news show (Titan News). Their interests range from operating cameras to editing footage, from directing short films to writing scripts. If any of this sounds interesting to you (even if you don’t have any experience), email titantv@iwu.edu to get involved!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, ideas, suggestions, etc., email them to titantv@iwu.edu to let us know. We’re here to help!

MyIWU – Schedule?

Titan TV schedule on MyIWU

Titan TV schedule on MyIWU

Have you ever logged in to MyIWU and eagerly navigated to the Students tab to see if there was a new Titan TV blog post? Chances are, well, low.

In conversations with students around campus, it’s pretty obvious that people want to watch Titan TV. For a lot of them, though, it’s difficult to know when to tune in. After all, without easy access to a Titan TV schedule, how would they know when their favorite movies were showing or when to catch Titan News?

So, we listened. By removing the Titan TV blog feed from MyIWU, we would clear up some screen real estate. What better to fill it with than what people want easier access to?

It’s tied in to the same database that drives the main schedule page and the iCalendar versions (channel four, channel five, or both), so it’s just as easy for us to keep it up-to-date as it already was. And if you like one of the other access methods more, you can keep checking the schedule how you have been before.

Undercover XIV

Hello, all.

Last Thursday, Undercover, the cover song talent show put on by the Office of Student Activities, happened for the fourteenth time on our campus! We were there to film it. It will be playing on Titan TV starting on Tuesday, too (and it should be for a while longer), so check it out. It’s pretty awesome. We also uploaded each song and the results to our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bloomington-IL/Titan-TV/29917599299), so you can see whichever parts you want to see there, too.

As always, let us know what you think. Questions, comments, ideas, suggestions, whatever. Email us at titantv@iwu.edu or call us at 309-556-2639 (or just x2639 on campus).

Titan TV 2009-2010 Executive Board

The Titan TV 2009-2010 Executive Board elections took place earlier today. Please join me in congratulating the Titan TV 2009-2010 Executive Board:

Executive Director

Michael Gorman

Programming Manager

Derrick Rohl

News Director

Nathan Butters

Resource Manager

Steve Grisko

The people listed above will be shadowing the current Executive Board members in their positions throughout the month of March and on April 1 at 12:00am, they will take the reins and start doing the jobs themselves.

This is an important step in the development of Titan TV as an organization and I couldn’t be happier for Derrick, Nathan and Steve. I know this is going to be a strong group going forward.

If you have any questions about this or if you would like to learn more about getting involved in Titan TV, send me an email at titantv@iwu.edu.

Ask Your Leaders

Have any questions for the incoming President and Vice President of Student Senate? Send them to Titan TV. We are in the process of setting up a video with our new leaders for them to respond to any questions you may have.

In addition to playing them on Titan TV, we are planning to upload the videos to Facebook. If you’d like, we can even send you a link to the video of your question when we post it.

So, send us any and all questions you may have at titantv@iwu.edu.

Yet Another Schedule

I spent a few minutes tonight making a page for people to download the Titan TV schedule to calendar programs like Apple iCal, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and many others. I have it set to import into iCal on my Mac and refresh once a day. As such, I won’t even have to be connected to the internet in order to check out what I can see on Titan TV – and you can do this, too.

This new schedule option is directly tied in with the new schedule page where you can select the specific day you want to see (with highlighting to distinguish between channels and to show you what’s on right now). They both run from the same database on our end, which makes it a lot more accurate on your end.

You can subscribe to the schedule for channel four, channel five, or both. And if you don’t want to give up your web browser, you can, of course, still access the schedule online.

If you have any other ideas, you can leave them in comments here, in an email to titantv@iwu.edu, or in a phone call to 309-556-2639.

New Schedule Page

A few weeks ago, I decided it was time to work on the Titan TV schedule page. I thought the old one was more difficult to read than it needed to be and it was often frustrating people because it could only show the schedule for one day at a time – there was no way to look at the schedule for tomorrow, for instance, unless that was what we had published for everyone to see.

Though I am still not completely certain that it will work fully in every browser, I am ready to start letting people use the new schedule format. We will continue updating the old one for a while (as often as we program, as usual), but the new one will probably be the only version in a couple of months.

If you have any trouble with the new schedule page, PLEASE email me – if you have trouble with it, that means other people will, too – emailing me will let me know what I should fix so this new page can work well for a long time to come.
