Student Concerns
Apr 4th, 2007 by Paul Lazoen
Part of the idea of this blog is to get students to post any concerns they wish to be voiced. The Student Concerns and Relations Committee therefore is asking that if you or your friends at Illinois Wesleyan have any concerns that you would like to have addressed during the Student Concerns meeting please post them here. The committee will handle the concerns that are in its scope and then foward any to the correct person to be addressed. If you have any questions about this feel free to post them here or send an email to communications commissioner at plazoen {at} iwu(.)edu
The air vents on the fourth floor of Ames make so much noise. One can hardly study in the study rooms then…
Saga’s vegetarian options are insulting. If I have to eat quiche one more time… Also, the “vegetarian” chile is only vegetarian about 50% of the time. Ground hamburger = meat.
I agree with the vegetarian comment. It would also be great if there were more healthy options.
i think that many of the offices on campus should re-design their hours of operation to fit the student schedule. It is almost impossible to get to the business office, the career center or health services if you are taking a full class load. It would be nice if offices on campus, or at least health services, would extend some hours into the evening even once a week. God forbid any person gets sick after 5:00pm….
Accessibility is a huge issue on campus. Several of the buildings on campus including the residence halls and Holmes are not equip. What does this say to incoming students who can’t even visit the admissions office?
I agree to more offices should be accessible but you could also say that the faculty could change their class times as well
Is there any way to control the heating and air conditioning on all the buildings on campus because they always seem to be too cold or too hot ALL the time!
I think that the science courses and labs available for non-science majors aren’t too fantastic. I’ve heard many complaints from people who are liberal arts or music/theater majors about the lack of classes that seem appealing or are just too difficult for a Gen Ed. Basically, if you are not a science major, the sciences are the courses that most people want to avoid. I think that there should be more options, or more general courses for those choosing not to pursue a science.
I agree with that, we need more science courses for non-majors. Otherwise it would just lower our gpa.
I think the classes offered for the gen ed science requirements like astronomy and chemistry of the environment are interesting and accessible for non-majors. However, there are not enough sections because they all fill up so very few sophomores or freshman can take the classes. A lab is something most would want to avoid as we enter into seminars for our majors.
Also, the idea that you need to take one physical science and one life science, one being a lab and the other being an issues class, but they have to be opposites in both ways, it really difficult. It is difficult even to explain!! There are only three PSIs offered throughout the entire University which makes things even more difficult. We either need more PSIs or need the option of just taking a lab and an issues course in either life or physical science.
