IWU Students Study in Vienna

Four talented IWU vocal performance students are studying their craft in Vienna, Austria. (From top left) Matt Skibo, Stefan Riley, Hanna Pristave, and Rachel Carreras, have elected to study abroad during their junior year with The Institute for the International Education of Students’ (IES) Vienna program. IES Vienna is very popular with music students because of its excellent musical offerings as well as its status as the home of famous composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Comments from Reggie: ‘Last semester I became the photo editor for our college newspaper The Argus. I like going around campus and getting involved in all kinds of events, such as sporting events, Founder’s Day Convention, music, plays, etc. While it did consume a lot of  time, especially the night before the press date,  I felt like I was into something I love. I am not considering photography as a potential career, I just simply love it.’

A Day in The Life of Coco Bassey

Coco in the Coffee Shop

Coco in the Coffee Shop

Name: Coco Bassey

Nickname: Chérie.. but only my best friend calls me that. I think the name Coco is catchy enough

Year: Senior (Spring 2010)

Double Major:  International Diplomatic Studies and German Language & Literature

Country: Nigeria

Favorite Thing about IWU: ‘Every single memory I’ve made here! They’re not all wonderful and perfect, but they’re all what has made my college experience so special. No one else from my graduating class in Germany moved to the United States to study, so leaving my friends and family was kind of rough at first,  but in the end, I think I’d have to say it was mostly worth it! (I say “mostly” because I’m waiting to see what kind of job I end up with after graduation- haha) If i were to choose something more concrete that I love about IWU though, I would definitely say it’s those Strawberry-Yogurt smoothies from Hatties. If you haven’t tried one, DO IT. They’re amazing – I crave them all the time!

Fun Facts:

I’ve spent 17 years of my life living in 4 different countries Europe & North America.

I speak English, and recently German, fluently… but unfortunately barely know a word of my native language (Efik)!

I’m a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

My biggest pet peeve is when people capitalize the second “C” in my name. It’s so weird.I really don’t know why people do that!

I love music, especially house and electronica. I feel like I annoy my roommates with my crazy techno mixes, but I can’t help it – it’s one of the many little influences living in Germany still has on me.
