State Farm Hall Progress

Progress on State Farm Hall continues to move right along. Furniture and technology are being deployed. Card Access is now operational. Roy, Tom and their crew of students moved all of the computers from CLA to SFH last week. The network will be patched down for the Business Administration and Economics faculty and staff who begin moving to their new offices today. ZDI is configuring classroom technology for the wonderful new classroom spaces. We are anticipating the delivery of the Bretford Presentation Shuttle’s that will house the electronics in each room.

Help@Ames support during the Ames Library Power Outage 6/4/2013-6/5/2013

The Ames Library is part of the scheduled maintenance related power outages on 6/4 and 6/5.

While walk-in computer and library support is unavailable durning the two day outage at the Help@Ames Desk, phone support at 309-556-3900 is available as well as through the Help Website.

Moodle Upgrade June 7th

Our Course Management System (CMS) provider Remote Learner has scheduled an upgrade of our Moodle instance.

We’ll be experiencing some downtime from 2am-6am on June 7 to prepare for an upgrade to Moodle 2.4. Moodle course pages will not be available during that time.

Once the upgrade is complete Rick and Patrick will prepare some updated documentation to help faculty using Moodle to adjust to the change.

ITS will never ask for your personal login information via email!

Representatives of Information Technology Services will never request your user name and password combination via email for any reason. Disregard any email phishing schemes that request your username, password, or personal information. Always keep your username and password private and secure and do not share your NetID/Password combination with anyone.

If you do happen to reply to a phishing scheme, or feel your account has been compromised, it is important to secure your account by changing your password. One way to determine if your account has been compromised is to take a look at your Sent Mail folder. If you notice email being sent from your account that you did not create and send, you need to change your password immediately.

Go to https://passchange.iwu.edu/ and follow the password change instructions.

4/17/2013 Google Service Disruption

Google is reporting a service interruption with GMail and Drive, Documents, Presentations, and Spreadsheets this morning.

Here is the latest information from the Google Status Page -

	4/17/13 8:09 AM	We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 4/17/13 8:55 AM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. This issue is affecting less than 0.007% of the Google Mail user base. The affected users are unable to access Google Mail.
	4/17/13 7:58 AM	We’re investigating reports of an issue with Google Mail. We will provide more information shortly.

Phone System Maintenance

On Wednesday, April 11, at 4:30pm, phone system maintenance is taking place to repair a faulty piece of equipment. One hundred fifty campus phones will experience a 10-15 minute service interruption as the repair takes place.

We apologize for any inconvenience the brief outage may cause as work is done to improve phone service on campus.

Registration

Teaching and Learning Space

State Farm Hall will have study area and classroom walls painted with whiteboard paint allowing any wall to become a dry erase marker whiteboard. The Thorpe Center in Ames Library has an area painted with whiteboard paint that was done as a test area to see how the paint performed and to see how the area would be used. Here is a great example of how the space was used this week as a study space.

Glass – formerly Google Glass, is a technology who’s developers are asking for help to shape the future of Glass. While being an early part of Glass may be a long shot for most of us, just seeing what is being planned for Glass is very… impressive, cool, (I can’t seem to find the right word – what do you think?).

Educause Learning Initiative’s 2013 Horizon Report

Each year the Horizon Report outlines six areas of emerging technology that will impact teaching and learning in higher education.

MOOC’s (Massively Open Online Courses), Tablet Computing, Wearable Technology, and 3D Printing are a few of the technologies outlined in the report.
