I’m happy to report that our test of the University’s IWU Alert system went well yesterday. Much thanks to Jeanne Johnson, our Director of Adminstrative Systems, Linda Biehl, our telecommunications coordinator, and Pat Zehr, our systems analyst.

The fire on Sunday morning at the Phi Mu Alpha fraternity affected more than just the Phi Mu Alpha house. It also disrupted the campus network connection for the Sigma Apha Iota (SAI) sorority. On Wednesday morning, January 30th, beginning at about 10am, we will be conducting a test of “IWU Alert”, the University’s emergency response system. On Thursday, 1/17, at 8:30am staff from the office of Information Technology will be taking the University’s web content management system off-line for maintenance. The web content management system is used by offices to update pages on the University web site. The University web site will continue to function while IT staff perform this work. [...]

We had a problem with a circuit being overloaded in the data center this afternoon at about 3pm. This power interruption brought down a rack of servers that needed to be restarted. Servers affected included my.iwu, mail, sun, and a few others.
We are restarting and restoring operations as quickly as possible.

IT staff are working with Sungard to fix a problem with keeping class lists up-to-date in the MyIWU course tools. We will be running maintenance scripts on the MyIWU server to resync class lists with recent add/drop changes. The MyIWU server will remain operational while the scripts are running. Secure wireless networking is now available through-out the Center for Natural Sciences. This is one of the largest buildings on campus.
